"You can discover more about a person in an hour of play than in a year of conversation." - Plato
What is Play Therapy? Play is a child's natural language. No matter the age, young or old, play provides the opportunity for self-expression, self-discovery, processing, & healing in one's life experiences. Play eliminates barriers that words create, benefiting children, adolescents, adults & families through empowerment, creativity, & meaning for optimal growth.
What sets Play Therapy Omaha apart from other play therapists? Many other therapists utilize play therapy techniques, but may not be fully trained as a Play Therapist. Registered Play Therapists have completed 150 hours of extensive training from an APT approved provider, as well as completed all clinical supervision requirements from at RPT-S. Sarah Barnes is a Registered Play Therapist, holds a Certificate in Play Therapy, and has numerous trainings in additional areas to best support clients, including: CBT, early childhood mental health, attachment, anxiety, grief, sand tray, and trauma-informed care. Play Therapy Omaha was created to meet the unique needs of kids, teens, and families. Our hope is that as soon as you walk in the door, you feel the warmth, comfort, safety, & fun of a child-centered therapeutic environment. We are happy to answer any questions about background or training! If you have any questions, please feel free to give us a call or send us an email. Is this just for kids? Nope! Play Therapy is for all ages! Play Therapy Omaha offers services to benefit the entire family, including teens and adults. Therapy is specifically tailored to each client's specific needs, and different modalities are utilized to achieve the best treatment for each individual. However, you will not find your traditional "talk" therapist here. Therapists combine talking with the use of creative methods & projective techniques, including the use of art and sand tray for tweens and up. This allows us to explore our work more deeply, while developing a greater sense of meaning and healing. Please refer to the Services page for more age specific information.
What is the cost? Play Therapy Omaha is pleased to be an In-Network Provider (for select providers) with Midlands Choice, Cigna, Aetna, and Blue Cross Blue Shield, & Tricare . Out-of-network services or private pay options are available as well. While you may not see your insurance plan listed above, many insurance providers do offer "out-of-network" benefits, and we are happy to assist you with the proper paper work to file a claim for reimbursement with your insurance company. *Please note, the cost of services may depend on many factors including copays, coinsurance, and deductibles. We recommend calling the number on the back of your insurance card to verify your benefits & that your chosen provider is an in-network mental health provider to avoid any unexpected costs.
What is CBT? CBT stands for Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, and it is an evidence-based practice. CBT is combined throughout work with all clients. You can click here for an infograph to better explain how it works.
