"You can discover more about a person in an hour of play than in a year of conversation." - Plato
What is Play Therapy? Play is a child's natural language. No matter the age, young or old, play provides the opportunity for self-expression, self-discovery, processing, & healing in one's life experiences. Play eliminates barriers that words create, benefiting children, adolescents, adults & families through empowerment, creativity, & meaning for optimal growth.
What sets Play Therapy Omaha apart from other play therapists? Many other therapists utilize play therapy techniques, but may not be fully trained as a Play Therapist. Registered Play Therapists have completed 150 hours of extensive training from an APT approved provider, as well as completed all clinical supervision requirements from at RPT-S. Majority of or providers currently hold a certificate in play therapy training or are working towards earning their certificate.
Each of our providers have specialized trainings specifically for children and adolescents. Some of the areas of specialties include: CBT, DBT, EMDR, BCBA, early childhood mental health, attachment, anxiety, grief, sand tray, and trauma-informed care. Please ask your provider for more information regarding their training and qualifications!
Play Therapy Omaha was created to meet the unique needs of kids, teens, and families. Our hope is that as soon as you walk in the door, you feel the warmth, comfort, safety, & fun of a child-centered therapeutic environment. We are happy to answer any questions about background or training! If you have any questions, please feel free to give us a call or send us an email. Is this just for kids? Nope! Play Therapy Omaha offers services to benefit the entire family, including teens and adults. Although play therapy can be used with all ages, therapy is specifically tailored to each client's specific needs, and different modalities are utilized to achieve the best treatment for each individual. However, you will not find your traditional "talk" therapist here. Therapists combine talking with the use of creative methods & projective techniques, including the use of art and sand tray for tweens and up. This allows us to explore our work more deeply, while developing a greater sense of meaning and healing. Please refer to the Services page for more age specific information.
